The men's Third XI knew from the start that they would have a tough game away to Cheshunt, with limited availability leaving no subs for the team, and the development of a new formation, but had not expected the scale of the situation. It didn't take long for this to become apparent however. The well drilled home side showed their dominance from the off scoring 3 goals within the first 10 minutes. It got much worse with Cheshunt scoring 3 more goals before the interval. Towns heads were dropping all the time, with every venture forward scarcely reaching the D.
Half Time score Cheshunt 6-0 Luton Town
The second half started completely different however. Ton were beginning to hold much of the possession, Damien Hayward running rings down the Cheshunt left back, with Fraser Smith and Dean Pierce doing much the same through the middle. Town were even able to force a short corner after a foul on Glen Lath in the D. A new routine by Steven Pierce found Dean Pierce with time to shoot, the resultant shot was less than desirable however. Pierce did make some worthy contributions however, a rapid run down the left hand side was unable to find a good cross before a similar run through the center lead to being bundled to the floor and winning a free hit. The same treatment was given to Glen Lath, though much to the wingers dismay was unnoticed by the umpires. Striker Dean Pierce was left frustrated in front of goal, whilst watching both Fraser Smith and Damian Hayward run through the center to test the goalkeeper, the latter winning a short corner, which could not be converted by Alan Clark.
At the other end town were caught on the counter once more, and also gave the ball away from a free hit on the 16 mark, the visitors paying the price on both occasions. Town were glad to hear the full time whistle.
