Lost in moments

Luton town mens 2s made the long journey to fellow strugglers Bishops Stortford, in the hope that they would be able to end a run of disappointing results. The game started well enough although Town did not create any clear cut chances in the opening stages, and often conceded possession through sloppy build up play. The visitors would be punished for this slow start when a short corner was given against Luke Whiting early in the first half, which Stortford scored with a fantastic strike to give the hosts the lead.
Despite having created few opportunities of in the game, the Blues would double their lead shortly after with an unfortunate deflection wrong footed Luton fullbacks Hayden Haywood and Mohsin Gulsher and giving them little chance to prevent the tap in at the back post.
Luton pressed on and began to create some decent chances, with Nikhil Dodhia missing a chance at the far Post, Whilst Nathan McNeil had a shot saved by the goalkeeper. With little time left in the Half Luton Town won their first short corner of the game, and very nearly made it count, with Haywood’s shot drifting just wide of the target leaving the score at 2-0 at the end of the first half.
The visitors were much invigorated in the second half and after a few positional changes within their ranks, began to dominate possession, with young rising Stars Charlie sage and Lawrence Buckingham terrorising the opposition down the Right hand side, whilst Jamie Wright and Nikhil Dodhia created many fruitful attacks down Luton’s Left.
It seemed that this complete dominance would eventually be rewarded, but the visitors were not able to convert their chances, squandering two short corners and a decent delivery towards the far post by Skipper Dean Pierce, and Town would ultimately pay the price when a Stortford counter attack lead to a soft short corner and the Blues third goal of the game.
Luton continued their strong play and eventually found the goal and potentially a way back into the game with a stunning strike by Ross Edwards with 20 minutes to go, and the visitors would go close again just moments later, with first Luke Whiting and the Dean Pierce firing wide of the mark, and despite what was now total domination, Luton could not close the deficit, leaving the final score at 3-1. the promising signs that the squad was coming to grips with the new playing style should give them comfort, as they prepare to face the league leaders in next weeks match.

Charlie Sage was voted player of the match after an outstanding debut for the mens 2s
