Luton Town Men’s 3s travelled to bottom of the league Broxbourne knowing a point would guarantee they would finish above the bottom two but without their 5 regular central midfield and attack missing. Thankfully players with men’s fours game being cancelled along with 4s Men’s Captain Martin they were able to help us field a team with subs.
A team that was made up of players who hadn’t played together much and playing in unfamiliar position Town started well with a few attacks but were unable to complete the final ball. After Broxbourne made a change suddenly Town were on the back foot and losing their shape. Poor decision making crept in and they found themselves 2-0 down by half time.
A good talk at half time Town started to find more of a rhythm and realising that attacked made the best defence Town finally made the pressure count and Chris May with a lovely strike found the back board. Broxbourne continued to attack and thanks to the defence made up of Ian, Iain and Tony and Corey kept them at bay and kept the shots to and minimum for goalkeeper Joseph Gough to keep a 2nd half clean sheet.
The defensive wall allowed the midfield organised by the experienced Chris and Dean supporting youngsters Alfie, Nathan Wiseman and Lawrence and Town kept the attacking going. With Syed and Fazalan interchanging to keep with wings going the momentum continued with Ryan Siddon’s having a fantastic shot from the top of the Dee that fizzled over the top right hand corner.
Time ticking away a ball in the Dee was dived on by the keeper but Captain Robin Barnes somehow managed to bend enough to take the ball of him and reversed it past the diving keeping and despairing covering defender to make it 2-2. Having not played for most the season and probably shouldn’t of on the day his goal gave town 4 minutes to find a winner. It also spurned Broxbourne to have another go but thankfully another player playing through injury was able to make a crutching tackle with 2 minutes to go that seemed to finally stifle the home side. The tackle however was the end of MOM Ian Hutton’s game and with Tony, Corey and Iain finishing the game commandingly Town deserved the draw.
Luton 3s final games is at home against St Albans 7’s where they are hoping to finish the season with a 4 game unbeaten spell.
