One Sweeping Move..

Another week, another team of changes to personnel which at atleast offers some explanation as to why it takes Luton so long to get going to build attacks. The team was briefed before the starting whistle so it should come as no surprise what is expected of each and every one of them. Too often the ball in the final third was being rushed and given away cheaply to WGC, although mid-way through the half Luton were starting to string some passes together and all that lacked was composure and/or the right ‘final’ pass. After some sterling work by Rory on the left he found Nathan in acres of space which he took great delight in turning and running full speed towards the WGC goal, at the last moment he fed Kyle who arrived at the back post to hammer it home; an excellent sweeping move, a rare one but just for that split second the team clicked. 10 minutes later WGC were back in the game when they hammered home a short corner that anyone who have done well to see, let alone stop. The first half ended 1-1.

The second half was more uneven with WGC having their turn to dominate play helped massively by the chasm that was open in the middle of the pitch as ill-discipline and lack of game intelligence allowed WGC to break Luton’s press far too easily. It was from such an attack that WGC took the lead as 4 of their attackers waltzed into the D with only Ian Hutton and a sprinting Rory to repel them, Joe did his best on the first shot but the second one found the back of the net. Where was the majority of Luton’s team??

More mistakes were creeping into our game with players too lazy or too tired to get the ball on their strong side, something that Luton will have to eradicate from our game, some more than others Pav..An award of a short corner after some tenacious play from Syed, Kyle & Alfie was very welcome as it meant that the dynamic duo of Iain & Clive could do their thing and this they did, Clive rattling home the equaliser on 59th minute. There were some more seat of the pants moments to endure but Luton battled on and can count themselves a little fortunate that the game ended 2-2.

Regrettably there are very few positives for me this week apart from the obvious point and goal difference. Several players let me, the team, the club down and themselves down this weekend and it’s something that will not be repeated.
