A strong home defense earned Broxbourne the win

Luton Town knew that just because their hosts were below them in the league, that it would by no means be an easy game, and it didn't take long for the blues to show why, despite constantly winning possession, the visiting side were not able to muster anything in the way of shooting opportunities. The visitors could not manage a single shot on target in the first half, and were becoming more frustrated with a solid Broxbourne defense.

There was confusion for Town when an attacking short corner was deemed not to have exited the penalty area before a shot was taken. There was another good chance for the visitors when a smart ball by Damian Hayward found Will Madden, who was tackled before he could shoot and the combined efforts of Sam James and Dean Pierce could not force a shot before the Home keeper slid the ball away.

Tempers were beginning to rise and Alan Clark was the first recipient of a green card fir dissent. The goals at both end were leading a charmed life, with Broxbourne coming the closest in the first half, forcing a pair of smart saves out of keeper Thomas Briggs.

Half Time Score: Broxbourne 0-0 Luton Town

The second half began with Town on the upper foot, with Will Madden shooting just wide of the target, whilst at the other end the home side were scarcely making an impact through a solid Red defense. A goal did come however, and it was the home side left celebrating after a Broxbourne youngster pulled free from the defense before shooting powerfully past the helpless keeper.

There was further frustration when a bewildered Alan Clark received a yellow card for dissent, despite pleading innocence. The home side were performing well with a man over, but they could not break through Martin Crimp and Russell Maidment's defense. Town had organised themselves well with only 10 men, but could not stop a Broxbourne break away, the high shot striking the goalkeeper on the side of the head before being cleared.

Town could only hold their breath when skipper Russell Maidment was caught in possession allowing the striker to run free, but a sharp recovery by the defender forced the shot wide. Back to 11 Town were now seeing a majority of the possession, with several attacks being stamped out just short of the penalty area. it looked as if there may be an equalizer, and the visitors thought they'd got it when Dean Pierce pounced on a loose ball in the D, but his shot was hindered as he collided with the sliding keeper, with the shot hitting the outside of the post.

That miss would prove to be the closest the inexperienced Luton side would come to a goal, leaving the final score Broxbourne 1-0 Luton Town
