Luton Town Men’s 1st XI vs Bedford Town
Luton Town began this early opening Division 3SW game well starting with some kick fire passing that left their opponents on the rack wishing they had a few weeks more to prepare. The first goal was taken with a deft touch by Bryn Owen into an open goal after Cameron Sarrington worked in a cross from the right.
Riding the crest of wave after wave of attacking prowess Martin Kavanagh Jnr. with a “random squeeze shot” left Bedford’s keeper sprawling on the floor while the ball leaps over landing at the back of the goal.
A convincing first half performance and a convincing 2-0 score line for the home side.
The second half saw Bedford re-coop some ground only to be thwarted by the pace and skill of Luton Town’s new central defensive duo Alex Powell and Kurtis Pitchford , but even they were unable to stop Bedford gaining a foot hold and producing a contender for goal of the season. Then up steps the Luton Town midfield machine Matty “the engine” Corder to open up the Bedford defence making the score line a more comfortable 3-1. Bedford continued to put up a fight after a succession of penalty corners but where again unable to penetrate Tom Dobson’s goal. Luton, again on the counter won their own penalty corner but with Martin Kavanaghs Olympic drag flicking the inevitable 4-1 score line prevailed.
A good start to the season with a comfortable first home win.
