The Millionaires Vs The Millennials

Harpenden 1’s 4 v Luton Town 1’s 3 – 28/10/2017

Luton Town Hockey club battled once more against their old foes, Harpenden.  The postcode derby had all the hallmarks of being a classic 6 pointer, where all they had to do was follow the plan and beat the privileged few.  This didn’t happen.

Luton Town had the fitness, ability, and determination again, but for a couple of moments where players suddenly became unconscious with a delay in basic synapse response from the brain to muscles, we let Harpenden into our D and gifted them two terrible goals.  What came from this was a superb display of willpower.  Two excellent breaks brought us back level.  But every time we scored we deemed it necessary to let Harpenden come back and score against us.  This was not part of the plan.

The goals from Az, Luke and Queeran were all well taken, but if it wasn’t for Reece playing for the Harpenden defense in the first half the scoreline may have been completely different.  Luke managed to get ABH’d during the match but once again the umpiring was a little bit ‘off’ (I’m not allowed to use offensive language in this) and demonstrated that this season, home umpires usually give the most interesting decisions, or in some cases, nothing at all.  No names!

The team can hold their heads high knowing that in large patches this performance was one of the best of the season, and there are many positives to take out of the loss.  Progression is being made, and when the whole team is back to their full strength, we will be a dominating force that destroys any opposition.  We move onto the next game.

Man of the match was Reece (when he decided to play for Luton) and Dick of the Day was Queeran because he is an irritant.  Well done to everyone who came to the club night, it was a lot of fun, and I was exceptionally hammered.

Peace and Love.
