Luton Come Out On Top After Hard Opening Fixture

The opening fixture of the new league season for The Men's first XI saw them come up against their neighbours Harpenden Hockey Club.
The first half was quite an open affair with both sides having good chances to take the lead. Luton had some good attacks down the right had side but unfortunately the final pass wasn't quite there and these attacks came to nothing.
Harpenden took the lead midway through the first half with an attack down the right saw the ball hit into the circle and their centre forward calmly finished into the far corner of the goal.
Luton tried to force a equaliser in the first half and came close with a penalty corner fired to the back post, the ball was deflected towards goal by Jack Madden but there was a player on the line to clear the ball away. It wasn't long before Luton equalised late in the first half, another penalty corner was fired toward goal and Jack Madden once again deflected the ball towards goal but this time the ball found its way into the corner.
The scores were level at the break at 1-1.
The second half was played at a much higher pace than the first, and once again there were chances for both sides, but once more Harpenden went ahead with a goal from a penalty corner that went into the bottom left corner. With Harpenden trying to keep their lead Luton pressed higher and higher up the field to try to force an equaliser. They soon got it their equaliser through Jack Madden's second goal of the game where he found the ball drop to him inside the circle to the left hand side of the goal, he managed to get the ball out from under him and calmly slot the ball through the keepers legs.
Both teams tried to dominated the later exchanges and both went out looking for the win but it was Luton who found themselves 3-2 up in the last 3 minutes of the game with a counter attack down the right hand side by Cameron Sarrington who carried it down the field towards the baseline and played it across the keeper for Luke Titmus to score into the empty net. Luton managed to hold out for the win.

Final Score Luton Town 3 - 2 Harpenden
Goals scored by Jack Madden x 2 and Luke Titmus
