Team report

A pre-season friendly against Stevenage 5s (who are in the league above Luton) gave the Ladies 2s, with a few new players, a few coming back into the team after some time out, and not forgetting those that have shown their solidarity for the team over the years a good chance to see how they may fair for the rest of the season.

The game though was one that would have been better played in a sandy swimming pool, with defender Katie G running onto the goal, only to fall over with the effort as she skilfully dribbled the ball into the D. With butt now soaked and full of sand, she was able to retreat back into the normal defensive position and make a note that Tena Lady may be useful in the future to help prevent those nasty sandy abrasions…and feeling lucky that she didn’t get a nose bleed from going too far up the pitch.

The first half completed with Luton 3-0 up with goals from Helen and Taz from normal run of play, and Siobhan from a well worked short corner strike. They also missed plenty of other chances with a shot from Leah saved by the Stevenage GK. With 10 players on the pitch still managing to hold onto their sticks (Gale still looking for hers after it went flying out of her hands after taking a free hit) the team were on a half time high, only bettered by some with re-application of Chub Rub. (it’s still early in the season, this won’t be needed by end of November at the latest)

Second half remained the same with Luton staying on top, luckily Sharna in goal was able to make a great save from a Stevenage attack on her own (the rest of the defenders still looking for Gales stick). Helen was able to score another goal, with player of the match Taz another 2 with some fancy showing off stuff round the Stevenage defence (though narrowly missing 2 as well). Leah was unfortunate that the goal actually moved out of the way as she missed by millimetres to score her first of the season.

A tooting of the whistle from the umpire signalled a victorious 7 (possibly 8) nil win for Luton. Some great teamwork across the pitch from everyone to hold onto the lead.
