Town put Buzzard in a flap

Luton Town Ladies 1st XI made their mark on the 5 counties Premier League this Saturday, thrashing newcomers Leighton Buzzard 2s 6-1. In this, their first home game of the season, it didn't take long for Charlotte Dunham to open Luton's account with an unstoppable effort into the top of the net. Luton’s lead was short lived as a defensive mix up resulted in the ball somehow ending up cascading over the line into their goal, but after captain Emma Whitehall put Luton ahead the game was only ever going to end one way. With further goals from Suzanne Starkey, Luiza Uziello, and player of the match Beth Carlisle, as well as a second for Charlotte Dunham there was no coming back for Buzzard. A well deserved win for Luton who will expect more of a challenge when they travel to Bedford next weekend.

Despite her fine display in front of goal this week, there really was no competition to Charlotte Dunham for the mare of the match award. Some might say it was a hapless inability to remove herself from the path of the ball, after saving not one, but two sure-fire goals for Luton that earned her a unanimous decision. Others of a more conspiratorial disposition might say that it was a deliberate ploy to sabotage perpetual top goal scorer Suzanne Starkey's chances of claiming the title once more. Either way the impressive contusion that resulted may well dissuade Dunham from a repetition of her exploits in future.
