Ladies 2s v. Milton Keynes: 3-1 WIN?
The Ladies 2s’ game got off to a solid start when Gale forgot how to count and we started the game with only 10 players on the pitch (she’s a teacher…), however we quickly established our dominance despite Becca Blanchett’s fraternising with the enemy in the form of seeing an ex-teammate playing for the opposition (“we both left Bedford for a reason, what does that tell you about them?”). Some beautiful runs were made up the wings by Emma Halsey and Ellie Shadbolt-Mackay, resulting in several decent chances which we didn’t quite manage to convert – I blame their centre back who seemed to believe that she was actually chopping a piece of wood with all the hacking that was going on. Milton Keynes gave as good as they got, and with several of their balls going skyward it gave Sam Barber the opportunity to show us her array of facial expressions as she tried to avoid a repeat of the head-splitting Leighton Buzzard incident. They were the first to get on the scoresheet with a goal that shouldn’t have been a goal because the attacker booted it with her own foot before putting it in (#stillsalty) but we didn’t let it get us down and not long after we got a couple of shorts that ended in Olivia Sturrock putting us on a level playing field. It was this goal that appeared to resurrect us as we were on FIYAH? in the second half, with two more goals scored and possibly the world’s greatest celebration from Gale after she got her first of the season. We also witnessed probably the most casual stick save by Amii Bonner, who I think didn’t even realise she’d touched the ball until we all started cheering. A couple of injuries were had by Liv and Kerri Wheadon but they both carried on like the true warriors that they are, and we ended the game victorious. One of the best starts to the seasons in a long while, we’re currently sat at the top of the table, AND INTEND TO KEEP IT THAT WAY.?
MOM – a joint effort awarded to Ellie Shadbolt-Mackay for some great play in the middle, and to Gale for the wonder goal?
DOD – there’s only one person it could have gone to…Sam, maybe you can use those facial expressions next time you audition for the panto???
